Xavier Zimbardo, writer-photographer

Born in 1955, the photographer-writer Xavier Zimbardo is an uncommon artist and a poet. A student of history and geography, self-taught in photography and art before becoming a teacher, he chose in 1989 the independent profession of photography.

He has travelled the world and from his reportage he has curated numerous exhibitions, wrote a dozen books and produced videos that have earned him worldwide recognition. Curious about the world and the people, he has an eye of a reporter, but being a lover of the image and its mysteries, he is primarily a creator.

Moved by his sense of duty to share, Xavier radiates what he learned during his travels. A regular practitioner of many breathing techniques and meditation he is about a respectful and dignified approach, joy of being and living, creating a work of multiple facets wherever he goes to work in the world.

Zimbardo founded Photsoc in 2006 (International Festival of Social Photography) where he presented works of young people and helped them discover their talents, present their photographs and ignite in them a fire for artistic creation.

A former member of Rapho, he joined Getty Images in 2011. Since 2013, Zimbardo undertook work in India towards making it free of the untouchable and major environmental issues raised by Dr Pathak and Sulabh International. He is currently writing the biography of this exceptional personality. He published “Angels of Ghost Street” (Lammerhuber edition) on the condition of Indian widows in 2015.
His photos are widely published in the international press and major museums have acquired his works in Europe and USA.
